Here’s what shipped in June and July, plus a quick look at what’s coming next. 📣

What’s new in Stockpress in June–July 2024 (TL;DR)

  • Annotations on images, videos, and PDFs — Drag and select on any image, video frame, or PDF page to leave pinpointed comments.
  • Advanced Custom Tag Category controls — Make categories required, restrict who can see or add tags, and auto-map tags to specific categories.
  • Grouped failed file uploads — All upload errors now group together in the upload modal so you can restart or remove them in one place.
  • “No Collection” filter — Filter for files that aren’t yet in any Collection to see what still needs organizing.
  • Public file URLs — Embed a file on any external website, visible to anyone without a Stockpress login.

Annotations on images, videos, and PDFs

Leaving pinpointed feedback on visual files is now as easy as drag-and-select. Stockpress annotations let you draw a region on any image, video frame, or PDF page and attach a comment to it — so feedback is anchored to the exact spot it refers to, not buried in a generic comment thread.

Useful for:

  • Design review — point at a specific element instead of describing it (“the icon in the top-right corner”).
  • Video QA — flag the exact frame where something is off.
  • Document markup — call out a specific paragraph or graphic on a PDF page.

Advanced Custom Tag Category controls

Four new ways to control how Custom Categories work in your workspace:

  • Make a Custom Tag Category required — Files must have a value in this category before they can be saved.
  • Restrict visibility by user role — Choose which roles can see a given Custom Tag Category.
  • Restrict who can add new tags — Lock down a controlled taxonomy by limiting which roles can add tags to a category.
  • Auto-map tags to specific categories — Route incoming tags to the right Custom Tag Category automatically.

Together, these controls turn Custom Categories from a flat tagging system into something closer to structured metadata governance — useful for teams with strict brand or rights-management requirements.

Grouped failed file uploads

Internet hiccup mid-upload? A few files corrupted? All failed files in your upload modal are now grouped together in one place, so you can restart them all, remove them all, or address them one by one without scrolling through a long list of mixed-status uploads.

“No Collection” filter: find files that aren’t organized yet

A new dynamic filter that surfaces files in your workspace that don’t belong to any Collection. Useful for catching files that slipped through your organization process — bulk uploads that never got sorted, or files added by someone who didn’t know where they should go.

Public file URLs: embed Stockpress files on external sites

Generate a public URL for any file in your workspace and embed it on an external website — visible to anyone without a Stockpress login. Useful for embedding brand assets on a public-facing site, hotlinking a hero image, or surfacing reference media in places where login-gated access wouldn’t work.

Frequently asked questions

What is Stockpress?

Stockpress is a digital asset management (DAM) platform that helps teams store, organize, search, and share brand and creative files in the cloud.

Can I leave annotations on images, videos, and PDFs in Stockpress?

Yes. As of June–July 2024, Stockpress supports drag-and-select annotations on images, individual video frames, and PDF pages. Comments are anchored to the region you select, so feedback is tied to a specific spot in the file rather than a generic comment thread.

What is a Custom Tag Category in Stockpress?

A Custom Tag Category is a configurable tag group used to apply structured metadata to files in Stockpress. Each category has its own set of allowed tags, and as of June–July 2024, admins can make categories required, restrict visibility by user role, restrict who can add tags, and auto-map incoming tags to specific categories.

Can I require a tag category to be filled in before saving a file in Stockpress?

Yes. Stockpress lets admins mark a Custom Tag Category as required, which means files must have a value in that category before they can be saved. This is useful for enforcing brand, rights, or campaign metadata across a workspace.

Can I find files in Stockpress that aren’t in any Collection?

Yes. As of June–July 2024, Stockpress includes a “no Collection” dynamic filter that surfaces files in a workspace that don’t belong to any Collection — useful for cleaning up unsorted files after bulk uploads or onboarding.

Can I embed a Stockpress file on an external website?

Yes. Stockpress lets you generate a public URL for any file in your workspace and embed it on an external site without requiring viewers to log in. Public file URLs were released in June–July 2024.

Do public file URLs in Stockpress require viewers to have a Stockpress account?

No. A public file URL is accessible to anyone with the link and does not require a Stockpress login.
