About EnviroCentre
EnviroCentre is a social enterprise not-for-profit based in Ottawa, Ontario, working across a wide range of sustainability and community programs. The organization supports initiatives like home energy retrofits and electrification, energy affordability, and community sustainability programs—many delivered directly and others in partnership with the City of Ottawa.
With rapid growth in recent years, EnviroCentre’s communications team is also expanding its output—building a comprehensive library of photos, video, brand assets, and campaign materials that can be used across dozens of programs and hundreds of community events each year.
The challenge:
Like many growing nonprofits, EnviroCentre relied on the tools already available in the Microsoft ecosystem—SharePoint and shared folders—before having a designated Digital Asset Management (DAM) system. Over time, that meant:
- Legacy folders created by people no longer at the organization
- Folders within folders that were hard to maintain
- Assets scattered across programs with no consistent structure
- Limited ability to build a future-proof visual library as the organization expanded
When Gabe joined EnviroCentre as Content and Media Lead, one of the first responsibilities was clear: implement a DAM that could be built from the ground up—while still keeping the organization moving day-to-day.
“It’s a bit of building the plane as we’re flying it,” Gabe explained. Work couldn’t pause while the foundation was being created.
The solution:
Stockpress gave EnviroCentre a modern DAM that is transparent, accessible, and practical for small-to-mid sized organizations—without the cost and complexity that often comes with traditional enterprise systems.
During the search process, Gabe looked beyond paid search results—checking community platforms, real user discussions, and review signals. Stockpress stood out early, including because of its nonprofit focus and mission-led approach.
Key reasons EnviroCentre chose Stockpress:
- Nonprofit alignment: Built to support organizations that need a real DAM, but don’t have enterprise budgets.
- Simplicity + ease of onboarding: Straightforward for administrators and approachable for new users.
- Search built for modern behavior: Flexible enough for broad or specific “long-tail” searching inside the library.
- Responsive support: Fast feedback loops, real client ownership, and a team that listens.
- Integrations that match real workflows: Mailchimp, Canva, Adobe connections—and a clear roadmap for what’s next.
EnviroCentre rolled Stockpress out intentionally, starting with the communications team. That approach allowed time to:
- Map the right architecture for corporate assets and distinct program areas
- Upload brand foundations (logos, templates, core assets)
- Build a visual library alongside ongoing work (photos and video from events, programs, and field activity)
- Learn the platform’s external-facing capabilities (custom links and pages for stakeholders)
“I have no regrets.”
– Gabriel Rivett-Carnac (Gabe), Content and Media Lead, EnviroCentre
Results:
With Stockpress, EnviroCentre now has:
- A foundation for a future-proof visual library: A dedicated home for growing photo, video, and brand assets—built to scale with the organization’s programs.
- A clear architecture across diverse programs: Collections can reflect distinct areas of work while staying consistent for the organization as a whole.
- Better onboarding for a growing team: An easy-to-use interface makes it simpler to bring new teammates into the same system, with less friction.
- Professional sharing for external stakeholders: Custom links and pages help tailor what partners see—by event, project, or program.
- Integrations that support real production work: Canva and Adobe workflows can store “final” assets in Stockpress, rather than disappearing into scattered folders.
- A DAM the organization won’t outgrow: The platform supports current needs while leaving room for future workflows the team hasn’t even imagined yet.
“I don’t think we’re going to outgrow what Stockpress has to offer.”
– Gabe, Content and Media Lead – EnviroCentre
